Privacy Policy

This page describes how Golden Crayon ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information, and the terms under which you access and use Golden Crayon and this website (collectively, the "Game"). By playing the Game, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not play the Game.

1. Information We Collect

To operate Golden Crayon and maintain a safe environment, we collect and store:

  • Account information - your username, email address, and a hashed (non-reversible) version of your password
  • Connection data - the IP address you connect from, and device identifiers (such as platform and a device node ID) used to detect ban evasion
  • Gameplay data - your in-game position, inventory, and preferences (nicknames, online/offline messages, chat settings, etc.) needed to save your progress between sessions
  • Voice data - if you use voice chat (Golden members only), your in-game position is transmitted alongside audio so proximity-based audio can function; audio is not recorded or stored
  • Moderation records - reports, warnings, mutes, and bans, including the reason and any account or connection information relevant to enforcement
  • Communications - Staff Outreach submissions and offline messages left for other players

If the Discord bridge is enabled, public in-game chat messages may be relayed to Golden Crayon's Discord server. Those messages are subject to Discord's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service once transmitted there.

If you use the "/ask" command, your question is sent to a third-party AI provider (OpenRouter or Groq) to generate a response. Do not include sensitive personal information in questions submitted through this feature.

2. Why We Collect It

We collect the above information to:

  • Create and secure your account, and verify your identity (for example, when resetting your password)
  • Save your progress and preferences between sessions
  • Enforce our rules, investigate reports, and take appropriate moderation action, including identifying repeat offenders or alternate accounts
  • Prevent abuse such as spamming, cheating, or unauthorized access

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share it with third parties except as described in this policy or as required by law.

3. How It Is Handled

Email addresses are encrypted at rest. Passwords are never stored in plain text - only as a one-way hash that cannot be reversed into your original password. Moderation records and other sensitive data are also encrypted at rest.

Access to personal data is restricted by staff rank and granted permissions. Developers hold the broadest access because they are ultimately responsible for the Game. Other staff may only view or act on what is necessary for their specific role, and only for the purposes described above. Staff access to logs is itself audited.

Retention: Active ban records are retained for at least 30 days after they expire, or longer if needed for an ongoing investigation, then purged. Password reset codes expire within 60 minutes of issuance. Offline messages are deleted once delivered. If you delete your account, your stored account data is purged.

4. Third-Party Services

Gumroad - The Golden Pass is sold through Gumroad. Any purchase you make is processed by Gumroad and subject to their Privacy Policy. We receive only the information necessary to confirm your purchase (such as your username or email). We do not receive or store your payment card information.

Zepto Mail - Transactional emails (such as account verification and password reset emails) are delivered through Zepto Mail, a service by Zoho.

OpenRouter / Groq - Questions submitted via the "/ask" command are sent to one of these providers to generate AI responses. We do not control how these providers handle submitted text; review their respective privacy policies before using this feature.

Discord - Public in-game chat may be bridged to a Discord server as described in Section 1.

5. Children's Privacy

The Game is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

6. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us (see Section 12). We will respond within a reasonable time. Note that some data may be retained for legitimate moderation, legal, or security purposes even after an account deletion request.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE GAME IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that:

  • The Game will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components
  • Any data stored through the Game will be accurate or preserved without loss
  • Defects will be corrected
  • The Game or its servers are free of viruses or other harmful code

You play the Game entirely at your own risk.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GOLDEN CRAYON AND ITS OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, including but not limited to loss of gameplay progress, virtual items, data, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Game, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In any case, our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the Game shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Golden Crayon and its developer, tunmi13, from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of or access to the Game
  • Your violation of this policy or any applicable law
  • Your violation of any third-party rights, including those of other players
  • Any content you submit, transmit, or make available through the Game

10. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion, with or without notice, if we determine that you have violated our rules or that your continued access poses a risk to the Game or its community. Upon termination, your right to play the Game ceases immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the most recent changes took effect. Continued play of the Game after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
